The heart of the village follows Harlem Avenue. Many residential properties are within walking distance of this corridor. The 16-mile Calumet-Saganashkee Channel (Cal-Sag 1922) runs north of Lake Katherine. It connects the Little Calumet River to the Chicago Ship Canal. It was dug to change the flow of the Calumet Rivers and divert waste away from Lake Michigan. It has also provided nearby homes with a beneficial storm water filtering/aerating/runoff system.

Palos Hills, IL
Palos Hills is located 16 miles southwest of Chicago’s Loop. On the northwest side of Palos Hills you’ll find 7,000 acres of Cook County Forest Preserve and the densely timbered Mount Forest Island (east of Valparaiso Moraine). Prior archeological expeditions in Palos Hills uncovered traces of two primary Indian settlements prior to 1832. The Illinois & Michigan Canal was completed in 1848 and it provided new transportation options and brought many immigrants to the area. It also provided a means to deliver the grown agricultural products and timber logs into Chicago. The Village of Palos Hills was officially established in 1914 and was an agricultural community until the 1940s.
Palos has quick access to the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and I-294. Metra train service to downtown can be found in nearby Worth, Illinois. It’s a convenient commute to downtown Chicago. Residents enjoy its many scenic parks, two golf courses and lush, forested area.

Orland Park, IL
